Management of change – phase three drop in sessions now available
Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH) is set to open its doors to patients later this year. This means a large majority of our staff will be moving to the new hospital.
An essential part of getting us ready is to ensure that our staff feel confident and well- informed about the upcoming change in their work base. This necessitates a formal consultation to address role adjustments and prepare for the new hospital’s opening.
The MMUH change of base consultation period has now formally commenced and informal drop-in sessions are available to anyone who has queries associated with the MMUH move.
- Monday 25 March: 12pm – 1pm, Hallam Restaurant, Sandwell
- Thursday 28 March: 10am – 11am, MMUH Hub, City (opposite Arches cafe)
- Wednesday 3 April: 3pm – 4pm, online – click here to join the meeting
You can come along and ask any generic questions to the management of change (MoC) team, if you can’t find what you are looking for within the consultation documentation or on the MMUH intranet pages. Our friendly teams running the sessions will also be able to signpost you to the right place if they are unable to answer your question.
If your query is in relation to a potential barrier that could impact on you moving to MMUH, you must raise this directly with your line manager, who will arrange an individual consultation meeting to explore this further with you.
If you have any queries about these sessions or want to join one of the sessions over Teams, please email laura.bennett59@nhs.net.

Works commencing outside City Hospital
On Friday 22 March work will be carried out by the CCTV contractor outside City Hospital. Due to the work being carried out, the pavement along the north side of Dudley Road will be blocked off. Diversions will be put in place for those walking alongside the site.
Please visit the guide here for more information about the closure and diversion routes.
The work is expected to be carried out from 4am – 7am.
We ask colleagues to take care when walking in and around the entrance to City Hospital.
IT disruption across SWB
We alongside other NHS organisations are currently experiencing intermittent network disruption across the Trust. This is impacting the majority of our IT systems both clinical and non-clinical. Wards, areas and departments should consider using business continuity plans if applicable. Work is ongoing to resolve the issue however we do not have a specific time when this will be resolved by. We must remind colleagues to regularly save pieces of work they are working on to avoid any losses.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Are you interested in learning more about prenatal genomic testing?
Central and South Genomics and the North Thames Genomics Laboratory Hub are working in partnership to deliver a series of webinars throughout 2024. These are focussed on R21, the National Test Directory code for rapid prenatal exome sequencing.
The second webinar in this series is taking place on Thursday 6 June 2024 from 12 pm – 1.30 pm
R21 testing is undertaken in at-risk pregnancies where a genomic diagnosis would assist in guiding the management of the fetus.
The R21 educational MDTs are coordinated by the two laboratories that provide this testing (Central and South Genomic Laboratory Hub (GLH) and the North Thames GLH), and aim to:
- Engage nationally with clinical colleagues involved in the prenatal setting
- Promote the rapid foetal WES service to ensure all pregnancies/couples eligible have the opportunity to access testing, and to update on any changes
- Provide content to increase knowledge of genomic testing, analysis, and results
The Genomic Medicine Service (GMS) provides the national genomic testing for rare diseases and cancer within NHS England by delivery of the National Genomic Test Directory.
To learn more and register for this webinar, please click here.
Please note that the MDTs are for NHS staff only.
