Urine for microbiology tests other than microscopy and culture
May 26, 2022
have started to roll-out a new green-topped boric acid tube for urine microscopy and culture.
This comes with a collection cup to allow for a mid-stream specimen to be collected. It is essential that this tube is used if microscopy results are required.
Unfortunately, it does mean that if you wish to send urine for other tests (Pneumococcal and Legionella antigen testing or CMV PCR for example), these samples must still be sent in a plain sterile universal sample tubes as the boric acid may interfere with the testing processes.
