LGBTQ+ History Month

February 8, 2024

Thursday 1 February marked the beginning of LGBTQ+ History Month.

LGBTQ+ History Month is such an important time to celebrate the contributions and achievements of the LGBTQ+ community throughout history. It’s also a great opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of LGBTQ+ inclusion in all aspects of society, including the NHS.

Inclusion in healthcare is crucial for making sure that everyone feels safe, respected, and supported when seeking medical care .It’s all about making sure that everyone gets the care they need no matter who they are.

It’s awesome to see the progress being made within SWB and the ongoing work to support our LGBTQ+ Patients. But there is always more work to be done to ensure that everyone feels welcome valued.

The 2024 theme celebrates LGBTQ+ people’s contributions to the field of medicine and healthcare both historically and today. Over the course of the month we will be recognising influential medical LGBTQ+ figures from history and/or today.

If you have anyone that you think deserves a mention please let me know by emailing thomas.devaney@nhs.net.

Thank you all for all your contributions to ensuring that everybody whether it be patient, staff or visitors are treated equally and fairly within SWB.
