Grand Round – organ and tissue donation at SWB: 28 September

We will be hosting a Grand Round tomorrow (Thursday 28 September), from 12.30pm – 1.30pm, in the Education Centre at Sandwell, with lunch available from 12.30pm.

Presenters will include Dr Kieran Donnelly, consultant in intensive care medicine and anaesthesia and Kerry Hall, specialist nurse in organ donation.

Though national Organ Donation week may have passed, the organ donation team will provide an overview of organ donation at SWB, and then focus on organ and tissue donation for those patients not on Intensive care.

Did you know organ donation and tissue donation are lifesaving interventions? There are 7,000 people on the UK transplant waiting list, however, sadly 430 people died last year awaiting a transplant. Nationally, organ donation consent rates are 68 per cent, however for SWB this is only 20 per cent.

Note: The event will be streamed to a room in the Education Centre at City Hospital, where a light lunch will also be available, for colleagues who are not able to attend
