Do you know about the self-service smartcard unlock functionality?

Following the release of the new self-service smartcard unlock functionality in September over 25 per cent of all smartcard unlocks are now performed via self-service. We estimate over 200 hours per day of time has been saved across the smartcard estate with this new service.

As a reminder, this service is available to all staff with email addresses linked to their CIS profiles, eliminating the need for a visit to a registration authority. No prior registration is required.

Smartcard holders can automatically use the new application if they have a valid email address on their care identity profile. This means:

  • There’s no need to register
  • There are no security questions to remember
  • Nobody needs to take their card to a Registration Authority to have it unlocked
  • Everyone can access the application using a regular internet connection
