Is diabetic retinopathy associated with hearing loss in type-II diabetes?
January 29, 2018
Many previous studies have shown evidence of a link between diabetes and hearing loss but the reasons behind this remain unclear. This study is looking for diabetic participants with normal hearing or a mild hearing loss.
If you choose to participate in the study you will be invited to a single appointment for audiological testing. Three different tests will be performed; pure tone audiometry, speech testing and the measurement of otoacoustic emissions.
Pure tone audiometry and speech testing require you to respond to sounds presented through headphones by pressing a button or repeating what you have heard. Measuring otoacoustic emissions does not require any active participation. A probe tip is placed in your ear, sounds are played and acoustic responses from your cochlea are measured. These tests are not invasive.
If you have any questions or require any further information about the study please feel free to contact Stuart Hall (shall29@nhs.net).
