Performance Development Review (PDR) 2024

This year’s PDR Cycle will run from April to December 2024. All PDRs must be completed by the end of December 2024. PDRs should be scheduled evenly over the PDR cycle to ensure timely completion. This also allows for more meaningful, good quality PDR discussions with colleagues.
The PDR has three main components:
- A review of the past 12 months to include:
- Recognition of strengths and achievements, and personalised wellbeing discussion.
- Review of whether work objectives for previous year have been met.
- Discussion on how the individual demonstrates the new Trust values and behaviours in their role.
- Setting SMART work objectives for the coming year. This will include a pre-set objective (which should be customised to the specific job role) around embedding the Trust values and behaviours and supporting the delivery of the Trust’s annual objectives.
- Career aspirations and personal development plan.
Completed PDRs must be logged by end of December for compliance purposes.
Colleagues and managers should refer to the PDR page on Connect for the PDR Form and PDR guidance: Performance Development Review – PDR (swbh.nhs.uk). The guidance has been further developed in response to staff survey feedback, to include how to have a career development discussion and different development options to consider. It also includes guidance on how to discuss the Trust’s values and behaviours (including creating an inclusive environment for patients and colleagues) and setting SMART objectives aligned to the Trust’s objectives.
