October is Domestic Abuse Awareness Month

October 12, 2022

Domestic Abuse Awareness Month aims to help raise awareness and end the stigma of speaking up against domestic abuse.

Colleagues are encouraged to offer resources to anyone you think may be in an abusive relationship. The high volumes of patients we serve can be challenging and we may feel like we are not always able to ask the direct questions.

Below is the SWB screening tool for questions which should be asked where there is any suspicion of abuse.

  • Q: Do you ever feel afraid at home?
  • Q: Does a partner, ex-partner or anyone at home often put you down, humiliate you or try?
  • Q: Have you ever been hurt or threatened by a partner or anyone at home?
  • Q: If indicated yes to the previous question, could you tell me how/why you got those injuries?

Our independent domestic violence advisers are available in A&E for any queries and support:

  • City: Sarah Markland, ext. 4829, mobile 07866 004529
  • Sandwell: Lesley Marshall, ext.3787, Mobile 07929 653014
