South Asian Heritage Month

As part of our celebrations of South Asian Heritage Month, Black Country Healthcare’s Equality Network for Race Inclusion and Cultural Heritage (ENRICH) have organised a variety of events.

Dr Aminul Hoque MBE explores the migration history of British South Asians – Tuesday 2 August, 11am – 12pm : Dr Hoque is a lecturer in Educational Studies at Goldsmiths College, University of London.  He is also the presenter of the BBC documentary on the History of British Bangladeshi’s (BBC Four – A Very British History, Series 2, British Bangladeshis), and was a major contributor to national youth policy through involvement in various research programmes. Dr Hoque’s work has been recognised by accolades such as a National Training Award in 2002, the Philip Lawrence Award in 2005 and he was awarded an MBE in 2008 for services to youth justice in east London. Peter Chand story time session – Monday 8 August, 1pm – 2pm : Peter Chand is an in-demand storyteller specialising in tales from India. His work has taken him to many well-known and respected venues such as The Southbank Centre London, The Singapore Storytelling Festival, The National Gallery London, Athens School of Storytelling, as well as various literature festivals and performances on BBC national and local radio.
