Heartbeat: HSBC lend a helping hand

Volunteers from HSBC’s internal audit team descended on our workplace once again to lend a helping hand in transforming some key patient areas. Ditching their spreadsheets and calculators for dustsheets and paintbrushes, the intrepid band of DIY painters and decorators set to work transforming Priory Ground at Sandwell Hospital and the garden at Leasowes Intermediate Care Centre.

Leading the charge from HSBC was Kundai Madamombe who said: “Last time we were here we transformed Lyndon Ground and Lyndon 1 and we loved making the area bright and colourful for the children, we also took on the challenge of transforming the reminiscence room on Lyndon 4 for older patients. This time, we’re bringing a bit of calm to Priory Ground with some calm pastel colours.”

Coordinating the makeover was Your Trust Charity’s Membership and Fundraising Manager Amanda Winwood who shared her thoughts on the work: “We’re absolutely delighted to see the HSBC team back again, they did a fantastic job at transforming the children’s wards and the reminiscence room, this time they’re taking on Priory Ground with the aim of making it a more calming environment for children returning from surgery, as well as taking on the cinema room and garden at Leasowes for our older patients.”

Sharing her thought on the transformation at Leasowes, Matron, Natalie Whitton said: “The renovation is amazing. It has made the cinema room at Leasowes a vibrant, warm and welcoming environment for our patients to enjoy their favourite movies, the style we chose also helps our patients to focus on times in their lives which will trigger happy memories.

“The garden is a family friendly environment where our patients can sit outside with their children/grandchildren to enjoy the sunshine and fresh air, it also gives them more space, so they don’t feel confined to their rooms. As Leasowes is a rehabilitation unit the garden will help the patients and their motor skills, as we will also be encourage to plant new seeds and shrubs, ready for spring.”
