New Alcohol Withdrawal Guidelines
March 6, 2018
New alcohol withdrawal guidelines – are now available to provide guidance on how to assess and manage acute alcohol withdrawal.
If this condition is not treated appropriately, it can result in an escalation of withdrawal which can lead to a medical emergency. This situation increases the risk to the patient, is very distressing for them, and extends their length of stay.
The guidelines contain pathways which staff must follow to effectively manage alcohol withdrawal.
We have an alcohol team of specialist nurses and alcohol practitioners based at both City and Sandwell hospitals, Monday – Friday, 8.00am – 4.00pm who can assist you in the care and management of these patients.
Please contact us on ext. 5074 if you have a referral or bleep 5134 in an emergency.
We are very happy to provide education on alcohol misuse and will come to team meetings to discuss the alcohol team and how we can help you. For more information, please contact our lead alcohol nurse, Arlene Copland on ext. 5074.
