Clinical support system maintenance: 6 September, 7am – 7.30am
Essential clinical support system (CSS) maintenance will be taking place on Friday 6 September to ensure the Trust’s system remains stable. The work is being carried out by IT and is scheduled to begin at 7am for approximately 30 minutes and should be completed by 7.30am.
During this time colleagues using CSS may experience brief disconnections and be forcibly logged off the system but will be able to log straight back in.
We would recommend colleagues try not to upload documents into CSS, access the ‘CDA’ icon in Unity to view historical patient records, or complete eOutcomes from the link in Unity between 6.55am and 7.05am. This timeslot has been chosen as a quieter time operationally to minimise impact.
The activity will be closely monitored by our IT support teams.
As always, should you have any further queries please do contact the IT Service Desk on ext. 4050 or 0121 507 4050 or via Chat with the IT Service Desk.
Midland Met General Induction Programme is now live!
This is your chance to get all the essential information you need to know before moving into our new hospital in October and November.
Who needs to complete general inductions?
All colleagues – both clinical and non-clinical who will be moving to and/or working at Midland Met are required to complete the Midland Met online general induction.
It’s a great way to ensure everyone is ready and informed.
The induction programme covers every aspect of working in the new hospital, from finding your way on to site, navigating the new hospital to understanding how the design will support us to deliver safe and effective care.
[su_service title="How to access the induction" icon="http://myconnect.swbh.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/cortex.png" icon_color="#cd161e" size="68"]General online inductions will be delivered via Centric Cortex. If you’re new to Centric Cortex, don’t worry, you can easily self-register for an account.
It is essential that you click on the enrol button before you watch the videos. This will allow you to press complete at the end of your modules, recording that you’ve completed each section.
This helpful video will guide you on how to access the system and complete your Induction.[/su_service]
Steps to consider:
- Schedule time: Block out time in your diary to complete the induction. We expect general induction to take approximately an hour and a half, however it will be split up into modules – you don’t have to complete it all in one go.
- Check you have a working login: Use the link to log in and confirm you have access to Centric Cortex.
- Need Help? If you can’t use the ‘Forgotten Password’ link,
email swbh.informaticsbookings@nhs.net.

Opening of MMUH coffee shop
As of today, the Trust catering department have achieved a MMUH milestone of their own, with the Level 5 coffee shop opening its doors for the first time, serving Costa coffee, hot and cold food, and snacks.

Chief Executive’s Message – Friday 23 August
Dear colleagues,
Most of my Friday message today is in video form – words didn’t seem to do this week justice.
Please do take five minutes to watch the video, which covers two very important milestones.
- Earlier this week, Balfour Beatty officially handed over the building to the Trust – we officially own Midland Metropolitan University Hospital.
- On Wednesday, the Board were received extensive information about all aspects of the programme to safely open our new hospital. We were assured of the clinical safety, patient, and staff experience case for opening and transferring patients and gave the green light to open to patients on 6th October.
More about these two exciting things in the video.

To help you ‘Get Set for Midland Met,’ we have produced a welcome brochure – which will complement your induction. This booklet covers off things such as getting to Midland Met, parking, refreshments, clinical model, ways of working and some floor layouts, which will help you orientate yourself to the new hospital.
You can access it here: https://issuu.com/swbh/docs/midland_met_staff_welcome_brochure
Thank you once again to everyone who has got us to this point. There is a lot to do in 44 days – but if you are yet to do so, please start with your online induction.
More information about how to do this is available here
I am also pleased to say that following the handover of the building to the Trust, we can now resume with our induction site tours. The booking for these will be controlled and will be timed to mirror our move plans. Please do not book a tour that is not indicated for you – this just causes extra work for everyone.
More information on how to book your tour is available here.
Let’s Get Set for Midland Met!
Induction Tour announcement – MMUH
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we stood down induction tours to allow Balfour Beatty the space they needed in order to complete the handover of the building.
We are pleased to inform you that new induction site tour capacity is now available for colleagues moving to Midland Met or who are cross site working.
These will be managed carefully and in line with our move schedule.
Starting on 27 August, Sandwell colleagues will have the first chance to book tours, as they’ll be the first to move in. After that Maternity and Neonates and the rest of City site will be able to book.
Tour slots will be open until the end of November with later slots being more widely available so don’t worry; we will have enough capacity.
It is important that you do your general online induction before you do your tour, as this will really help you get more from the site tour, as well as giving you more detailed MMUH knowledge and confidence.
More information on online induction is available here.
Booking guidance
- Tours will be booked via Eventbrite and will clearly show that some slots are reserved for Sandwell staff only – please do not book into a slot that is not intended for you – it will be rescheduled to a later appropriate date
- Tours can be booked by individuals or by your line manager
- Please arrive for your tour on time and suitably dressed – full instructions will be emailed to you.
- It is important that you prioritise attending your tour – if you need to cancel, you must inform the induction team in advance – swbh.mmuhinduction@nhs.net
Please note:
If you work in one of the following areas:
AMU
Critical Care

You do not need to book a general site tour – you will do this as part of your department tour which will be booked by your line manager or induction lead.
Colleagues who do not turn up for a tour without prior cancellation will need to rejoin the waiting list and will be a late priority.
If you have any queries, please contact Jackie Cooper, MMUH Induction Team Lead or e-mail swbh.mmuhinduction@nhs.net
