World Hand Hygiene Day: 5 May

Hand hygiene is vital to help stop the spread of harmful germs in healthcare settings.

Standard infection control precautions (SICPs) are to be used by all staff, in all care settings, at all times, to ensure the safety of those being cared for, staff and visitors in the care environment.

SICPs are the basic infection prevention and control measures necessary to reduce the risk of transmitting infectious agents from both recognised and unrecognised sources of infection.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) will run its annual global webinar on Monday 6 May, discussing the value of IPC and hand hygiene education and training. Find out more at: World Hand Hygiene Day 2024

Leadership conference sparks excitement

As the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital project progresses, 200 members of our senior leadership team joined together for some powerful discussions and compelling presentations around the opening of Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH). The key takeaway of the day was that we are opening to patients in October 2024.

Professor Paul McGee, also known as ‘The Sumo Guy’ delivered an inspiring speech on staying motivated throughout a project of this scale. His words reignited our commitment to our overarching objective: providing top-notch healthcare for our patients while enhancing the experience for our colleagues. Our Trust values: People, Patients and Population have never been more crucial and remain at the heart of this project.

Chief Executive Officer, Richard Beeken, commented: “It’s been brilliant to discuss a myriad of Midland Met information, including operational readiness, service change, maintaining colleague wellbeing and our plan for 100 days after the move.”

Naturally, to ensure we can provide the smoothest transition for moving, we continue to work with Health Care Relocations (HCR), who have relocated over 500 healthcare facilities across the globe.

Joe Hartnett and Cameron Goes from HCR expressed their confidence in ensuring our safe move into Midland Met. Their return to the Trust reminds us how close we are to our big move in October.

Rachel Barlow, Managing Director, commented: “Today has been fantastic. We spent some innovative workshop sessions, including looking into our pathway interdependences to ensure that the care we deliver is seamless and safe.”

There were positive discussions around our estate, agile working zones and interdependencies with a strong emphasis on patient and colleague care.

As our move to Midland Met continues with momentum, we look forward to the months ahead as we gear up to open safely in October.

Are you parking in residential parking?

We have received numerous complaints from local residents regarding colleagues parking in disabled residential parking spaces. These spaces are specifically allocated to local residents with disabilities and should not be used by SWB under any circumstances. We understand that occasionally our staff parking facilities do reach capacity but this does not mean staff should park in residential disabled spaces.

Colleagues who continue to park in these spaces may find their vehicles clamped or could be issued with a penalty charge notice from the local authorities. The Trust will not take responsibility for any colleagues who are issued with either of the above.

Need to apply for a parking pass: Details of how to apply for your a Q-Park permit can be found here: How to apply for you parking permit. Please allow five working days for processing. You will receive a confirmation email once your application has been accepted.
