Shared care training sessions during November

As you may be aware, plans to bring together health and care records across the Black Country and West Birmingham – and beyond – are about to take the next step forward.

One Health and Care is a digital shared care record, which will bring crucial patient health and care information held by different providers, together in one place.

It will provide professionals responsible for a patient’s direct care with a holistic view of a person’s care and treatment across all settings. The aim is to improve patient outcomes and save staff and clinician time, by:

· Enhancing collaborative working between individuals and organisations

· Giving clinicians the information needed to make faster and more accurate decisions – reducing the need to order repeat tests and request paper records

· Reducing the burden on patients to relay key information with each new contact

The system will sit behind your existing clinical system (Systm One, Unity) to avoid the need for additional logins or extensive training.

For full details about the system, its benefits and how it will work, visit the dedication One Health and Care webpage here.

Shared care training sessions are available on the following dates in November:

Still time to complete the staff survey!

Thank you to colleagues who have taken the time to complete the staff survey, our response rate is currently at 23.1 per cent which is why we still need to hear from you!

By taking part in the survey, your views will be heard by not only SWB but by the region, and key decision makers nationally and used to inform policy and improvements around your priorities such as safety, wellbeing, working decisions and pay. By completing this survey once, your voice will be heard by numerous data users.

Please do take 15 minutes of your time to complete the survey when it arrives – for many of you this will be via e-mail, but for those who don’t have regular access to a computer (porters, ward services and catering) it will be delivered to your home address.

As of Wednesday 13 November, corporate lead the way with 36.8 per cent of surveys completed followed by imaging with 24.8 per cent.

International Men’s Day

On International Men’s Day, the Trust is raising awareness of the domestic abuse services available to male victims to encourage more men to seek support– and to encourage others to encourage them too.

One in every six to seven men will become a victim of domestic abuse at some point in their lifetime. Domestic abuse is a major health issue and affects people from all walks of life. Men can experience domestic abuse in intimate relationships (heterosexual, same sex, ex-partners) from family members and can be victims of child-to-parent abuse (CPA). Abuse can come in many different forms and includes:

  • physical or sexual abuse;
  • violent or threatening behaviour;
  • controlling or coercive behaviour;
  • economic abuse;
  • psychological, emotional or other abuse;

If you are a man and a victim of domestic abuse, there is help available.  Don’t suffer alone or in silence.

Don’t deal with it alone: Ask Marc. Ask Marc is a specialist service in Sandwell which provides help and support for men affected by domestic abuse, stalking, rape and sexual violence. https://askmarc.org.uk/ 0121 289 6402.

If you are concerned that a man in your care or a member of staff in your team is a victim of domestic abuse, advice and support is available from Safeguarding Teams (Child 0121 507 2844/ Adult 0121 507 5588), DA Nurses (0121 569 7223), Hospital IDVA (City 0121 507 4829, Sandwell 0121 507 3787) and specialist services. See Safeguarding Children Domestic Abuse section on Connect. If there is an immediate risk of harm, contact Police on 999.
