Grand Round – organ and tissue donation at SWB: 28 September
We will be hosting a Grand Round tomorrow (Thursday 28 September), from 12.30pm – 1.30pm, in the Education Centre at Sandwell, with lunch available from 12.30pm.
Presenters will include Dr Kieran Donnelly, consultant in intensive care medicine and anaesthesia and Kerry Hall, specialist nurse in organ donation.
Though national Organ Donation week may have passed, the organ donation team will provide an overview of organ donation at SWB, and then focus on organ and tissue donation for those patients not on Intensive care.
Did you know organ donation and tissue donation are lifesaving interventions? There are 7,000 people on the UK transplant waiting list, however, sadly 430 people died last year awaiting a transplant. Nationally, organ donation consent rates are 68 per cent, however for SWB this is only 20 per cent.
Note: The event will be streamed to a room in the Education Centre at City Hospital, where a light lunch will also be available, for colleagues who are not able to attend

This week is National Inclusion Week
Founded by Inclusive Employers, National Inclusion Week is a week dedicated to celebrating inclusion and taking action to create inclusive workplaces.
Inclusion is critical to the workplace, and we must all work together to make equal and diverse spaces everywhere we go. This does not mean you have to know everything, but understanding what inclusivity means is a good place to start.
Here at SWB, we are always striving to become a more inclusive workplace as this means we are much more likely to see greater diversity at our Trust, fair treatment of everyone and greater equality of opportunities.
Watch this short video featuring Eddie Briones, Interim Lead Chaplain, talking about how the chaplaincy team supports equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Clinical support system maintenance: 6 October. 7am – 7.30am
An essential CSS (clinical support system) maintenance will be taking place on Friday 6 October to ensure the Trust’s system remains stable. The work is being carried out by IT and is scheduled to begin at 7am for approximately 30 minutes and should be completed by 7.30am.
During this time colleagues using CSS may experience brief disconnections and be forcibly logged off the system but will be able to log straight back in.
We would recommend colleagues try not to upload documents into CSS, access the ‘CDA’ icon in Unity to view historical patient records, or complete eOutcomes from the link in Unity between 6.55am and 7.05am. This timeslot has been chosen as a quieter time operationally to minimise impact.
The activity will be closely monitored by our IT support teams.
As always, should you have any further queries please do contact the IT Service Desk on ext. 4050 or 0121 507 4050 or via Chat with the IT Service Desk.
