We now have our new values: Ambition, Respect, Compassion (ARC)

Thank you to colleagues across the organisation who, over the past few months have inputted in the discussions about what our values will be. Our values are a reflection of what is best about us and what matters most to us, the people we care for and the wider community we serve. They support the delivery of our Patients, People, Population plan as well as the important programmes of work we are doing now and have planned for the future.

Our new values are:

  • Ambition: We’re ambitious for our communities. We want to make a difference, improving life chances and health outcomes. We’re ambitious for our people. We want them to be happy here, to feel supported to achieve their own goals and ambitions. We’re ambitious for our Trust, open to new ideas, developing new technology and treatments to provide the best possible care. Working together, and alongside our partners to continually improve.
  • Respect: We are a place of inclusivity. We value, celebrate and draw strength from the diversity among us, and in our communities. This is what makes us special. Our people and our patients feel listened to. Everyone’s voice counts. We’re a place where people feel safe to speak up knowing their voices will be heard. Respect and dignity for everyone.
  • Compassion: We’re a welcome, friendly Trust. We have care, kindness and compassion at our heart. For us, everyone matters. We’re a place where compassion is not just for our patients and their families, but a right for all of us. Our people are amazing, meeting challenges head on. They put patients first, day after day, to deliver the best care they can.

We want to use our values as a guide for how we all behave with everyone we come into contact with as we do our jobs. This is where we need everyone’s help. Between us all we will develop organisational behaviours that will become a framework to guide how we all behave with each other, our patients and their families.

This will be at the heart of our organisation. We’re calling them our ARC values. A strong, united culture will help us deliver our strategy and make SWB a good place to be.

Why not join us for one of our short virtual workshops below and help us begin to develop behaviours in support of our new ARC values:

Have you visited Abundance yet?

If you’ve been to City Hospital recently you may have noticed our new garden space at the front of the Birmingham Treatment Centre (BTC).

Abundance launched in June after being commissioned to celebrate the Birmingham Commonwealth Games; and it celebrates nature in all its glory. Sunflowers, shrubs and plants have been spread around in planters made from recycled materials to encourage everyone to engage with the great outdoors.

The inclusive garden play area has been designed for children and adults alike to enjoy a moment of calm amid the hustle and bustle of daily life in Birmingham.

Every Tuesday from now until September, there will be artists in residence on site at City to showcase their skills and everyone is invited to take part. This is what’s coming up next:

  • Tuesday 2 August, 10am – 4pm – join Artist in Residence, Louise to create decorations for the Abundance site.
  • Saturday 6 August, 11.30am – 2pm – you can enjoy the inclusive disco picnic. Why not take your lunch and enjoy DJ Tom spinning some tunes?

Head over to the front of BTC to visit Abundance. The team look forward to welcoming you!

NHS England Midlands Inclusivity and Diversity Award Scheme 2022

The Midlands Inclusivity and Diversity Award Scheme (MIDAS), recognises new and excellent ways of working by colleagues, managers, and leaders across the region, to make the Midlands an inclusive place to work for all our NHS people.

Evidence suggests that black, Asian and ethnic minority staff are more likely to have a poorer work experience than their white co-workers. Despite the slow progress, we must be confident that change can happen, and we know a lot of work is taking place across the region to address and change this.

The Midlands Workforce Race Equality and Inclusion Strategy (WREIS) is committed to celebrating good practice. MIDAS will be an annual celebration, and this year will focus on work to address workforce race equality issues.
