Unity 28-Day Challenge comes to an end – time to complete your checklist
Thank you to everyone who took part in the 28-Day Challenge, which came to an end on Sunday. Hopefully you found it an enjoyable experience and were able to increase your knowledge of Unity through completing a series of bite-sized tasks.
It was good to see so many people getting involved, supporting each other and working together as a team. Plenty of you regularly practised on the Play System and, as a result, should now be more familiar with how Unity works and will fit into your clinical role.
Having finished the 28-Day Challenge it’s important for everyone to complete the relevant ‘Unity – It’s all about U’ checklist, which outlines the core requirements for using the system in your role. You can do this through Connect.
Please answer the questions honestly. Nobody’s trying to catch you out and there’s nothing wrong with not knowing how to do something. Filling in the checklist will simply show your manager where you are with Unity and help them to identify any support you might need to ensure you’re up to speed with the system.
Although the 28-Day Challenge is over, there’s nothing to stop you from repeating the challenges over the coming weeks and months. As always, the more work you put in the easier you will find it once Unity goes live. The Play System is a good place to start but please be aware that it’s out of action this week for planned maintenance. It should be available again from Monday 3 June.
For more information about the 28-Day Challenge, or the ‘Unity – it’s all about U’ checklists, contact the learning and development team on swbh.landd@nhs.net.
Coaching opportunity for colleagues

Gynaecology and gynae-oncology fax switch off: 1 June
The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock has ordered a complete phase out of faxing in the NHS by April 2020.
NHS organisations will be required to use modern communication methods, such as secure email, to improve patient safety and cyber security. Information can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/news/health-and-social-care-secretary-bans-fax-machines-in-nhs.
With this in mind, gynaecology and gynae-oncology will be switching off their fax machines on 1 June. Fax machines currently situated in these departments will be removed and their contact telephone numbers replaced with generic email addresses.
The details are as follows::
- Fax 0121-507-5430 (Gynae-Oncology Secretaries Office, Pan Birmingham Gynae Building, City Hospital). Instead, please email swbh.gm-gynae-oncology@nhs.net for any Gynae-Oncology enquiries.
- Fax 0121-507- 5680 (General Gynaecology Secretaries Office, Pan Birmingham Gynae Building, City Hospital). Instead, please email swbh.gm-gynaecology@nhs.net for any Gynaecology enquiries.
