QUEST certificate issues

During a recent I.T update the ability to print certificates from quest has stopped.

Until the issue has been resolved, the designated teachers of quest are unable to provide you a certificate due to the numbers of colleagues requesting them.

Please keep note of your module details and once you have completed a module please ‘print screen’ and save the image for any courses you may need results of quest for. We are hoping that once the issue has been resolved, you will be able to re-print the certificate.

Put a face to your name

Thousands of e-mails are shared between colleagues in our organisation every day and there will be many people you know by name, but not by face.

Did you know that you can upload a photo to outlook and NHS mail, which will be sent with your e-mails?

Please follow the simple steps below to help us put names to the faces of our colleagues.

  1. Login to your email at nhs.net
  2. Click on your name in the top right corner of the screen – there should be a little image with ‘change’ underneath it
  3. Click change, upload a new pic and apply

This should set up outlook and NHS mail at the same time.

If you have any queries please contact the comms team on 5033 or e-mail comms.swbh@nhs.net

Waiting List Initiative Payments

As part of the ongoing drive to review costs across the organisation, the payroll team are working to reduce the number of waiting list initiatives being carried out each year, through robust job planning and management of planned activity. They are also reviewing the amount being paid for these lists to reduce costs and also to ensure a more consistent approach across all groups and teams – be they additional outpatient clinics or theatre lists etc.

Therefore, with effect from 1 March, the arrangements for waiting list initiative lists will change for all non-medical colleagues.

All professionally registered colleagues – such as staff nurses, ODPs, radiographers etc. – will continue to receive the £100 payment for each approved four hour list worked.

For lists which are three hours or less the rate will be £75 for the session.

All un-registered colleagues such as healthcare assistants, admin, technicians etc. – will be booked via the Trust bank for any additional lists and will be paid at the standard bank rates which are available on Connect.

Any rates currently paid above £100 to registered colleagues will cease with effect from 1 March and those carrying out work on additional lists will receive the flat payment of £100.

If you have any queries or concerns about this please contact your group senior management team in the first instance.

Xiaoshuijing Farmers’ Chorus at Birmingham Symphony Hall

Established in 2002 in the mountains of Southern China, Xiaoshuijing Farmers’ Chorus, led by choirmaster Guangyuan Long, comprises 50 farmers of the Miao ethnic minority. No member has ever received any professional vocal training, instead absorbing the Western Baroque and bel canto singing traditions introduced by Christian missionaries in the 1930s by word of mouth over the course of generations.

The choir will be performing at Birmingham Symphony Hall on Tuesday 27 February, 7.30pm.

Tickets are free.

Salary sacrifice for staff car parking ceases April 2018

The Government announced in the 2016 autumn statement that the tax and employer national insurance advantages of salary sacrifice schemes for car parking would be removed for new applications from April 2017 and for all employees from April 2018.

Therefore all colleagues who currently pay for their car park pass via the salary sacrifice scheme will automatically revert to paying by standard deduction from their April 2018 salary.

Although the amount of the car park charge on your payslips will not appear to change, because of the change in rules, you will no longer benefit from the reduced tax and national insurance and this will therefore have an adverse effect on your take home pay from April 2018.

If the car park charge appeared on the left hand side of your payslip in February 2018 you are currently paying for your parking permit by salary sacrifice. From April 2018 the approximate reduction in your take home pay will be as follows:

Current monthly payment Equivalent annual charge Approximate reduction in monthly take home pay from April 2018 Parking Permit Type
£21.25 £255.00 £8.70 City/Sandwell full time higher rate tax payer
£17.00 £204.00 £5.60 City/Sandwell full time lower rate tax payer
£10.63 £127.50 £4.40 City/Sandwell part time higher rate tax payer

Rowley full time higher rate tax payer

£8.50 £102.00 £2.80 City/Sandwell part time lower rate tax payer

Rowley full time lower rate tax payer

£5.32 £63.75 £2.20 Rowley part time higher rate tax payer
£4.25 £51.00 £1.40 Rowley part time lower rate tax payer

Accredited line manager programme

We have approximately 750 line managers within our organisation and over half of them are already on their way to becoming ‘SWBH accredited managers’ and by the end of March 2018, every line manager will have been through our internal training programme.

Each manager will undertake five core modules in Year 1, which started in January this year and will run until the end of March, following which any new managers entering our organisation will also attend the accredited manager modules.

The five core accredited manager modules are:

  • Module 1 – Aspiring to excellence PDR
  • Module 2 – Managing health and wellbeing
  • Module 3 – Recruiting and retaining talented people
  • Module 4 – Managing your resources
  • Module 5 – Managing your responsibilities

If you are a manager and you have not already completed or booked onto the accredited manager programme modules, please ensure you book on to a session before the end of March.

The training takes two days and each module is delivered in half a day. It is recommended that you complete modules 2 and 3 before 4 and 5. You should have already complete module 1- Aspiring to Excellence PDR, however if you are a manager of people and have not attended the training there are dates available until the end of March.

Please book your accredited manager modules via ESR or e-mail swbh.leadership@nhs.net PDR training can also be booked via ESR or email swbh.pdr@nhs.net

Purple Points will go live next week

Our Purple Points will go live at next week allowing patients and relatives to call our Purple Point Team (in the Governance Support Unit) to raise any concerns they have.

They will be able to call on phones, which have been installed around all inpatient ward areas across our hospitals.

The Purple Point  phone line can be used to compliment staff and excellent care, and this will be fed back to you.

If you receive a call from our Purple Point team please respond so that they can begin to address concerns that are raised, leading to a safe and timely resolution.

It means we can make a difference at the time, rather than when they have gone home.

Purple Points will go live at Sandwell and Rowley Regis Hospitals on 27 February and at City on 28 February.

With your help we can get our care right, every time for everyone.
